Now that SCO will be offering an economic incentive to switch from Citrix to SCO licenses in that specific situation mentioned at ThinPlanet, I'd appreciate some help in understanding a fundamental aspect of the business.

In Gorilla Game, we learn that a high cost of switching is one of the critical attributes of a Gorilla's products. If some day viable competitors' products become available across the board, how would you characterize the relative total cost of switching from Citrix products to the competitors' products? Is there an inherantly high cost of switching, such as the exhorbitant cost a company would have of switching from a Windows-based environment of desktops to a Mac-based environment?

Mike, this kind of competition is good because the real problem with thin client is getting customers to embrace the concept, not in getting them to use Citrix stuff specifically. (Think of the market if just a quarter of fat client converted.) Buyers thinking of taking the leap may have an easier sell job with their management if they can name other possible suppliers in addition to Citrix.
Still holding lightly, waiting for earnings to make CTXS position in the gg more clear. I can see that going to thin client and Y2K at the same time could have made potential new customers nervous, so if the coming earnings are excellent it may be especially significant.
