unclewest,

The only two businesses I know that make such obscene profits are banks and carpet stores.

Now that I'm retiring, it's only the banks that are doing that. :) And by the way, the phrase "obscene profit" is an oxymoron. :)

SL's point that he is buying x ($) from a bank and using it to buy inventory (stock) which he then plans to sell at a profit is similar to a store owner buying x ($) from a bank to purchase inventory (carpet) which he plans to sell at a profit.

Your point that his stock is the inventory supports mine that the capital is not the inventory.

Regarding the issue of selling his inventory at a profit, his business model is closest to a brokerage business in which he not only sells to his customers but also buys from them.

Good fishing!
