Got it solved! Turns out it was two seperate problems, both processor related.

On my rebuild, I forgot that a p2b-f needs the jumper moved to go back down to 66 mhz FSB--the 333a wouldn't even peep at 500 at default voltage (no surprise there.)

On my friend's machine, he didn't have the processor set quite right.

Thanks for your help, Spots, Wily, and all. I will try to not be such a stranger so that I can return the favor.
