Rob, The Commission is hyping the $9.00 base?......Ha! I can't imagine anyone thinking that the Commission would ever hype. This is an insult to every dues-paying member! It is clear to most followers that Ascom has been a big seller of IDX stock. It is an issue.....as they have over 4 million shares. Nobody ever said they were the enemy......in fact, I have posted many times that Ascom has been a good friend to IDX. But they are making the insider selling page on Yahoo look like crap. I don't know what you mean by being specific.....placing the shares means that IDX finds a private buyer for the shares....instead of them being sold......10k or 20k per day...on the open market....for years. If and when these shares get placed.....I believe, as do many others, that it will be perceived as a very positive event......especially if they are placed with one of out tecnology partners or high profile tech funds. I believe there is an effort underway to do this. Now......When does the biometric race begin?.....This year. Here are two items for you to look at.....one is a biometric report from IT Infosource.....and the other is an IBM link.....IBM has now jumped in......IMO.....I do not know who is doing their stuff.....but I do know that they, along with IDT....are founding members of BioAPI. Compaq and Unisys are using our stuff......And I don't know about HP......except that the executives at HP live in the same subdivision as Randy Fowler...and a retired exec. hired on at IDX last year for a while. So I think IDX has 3 of the 4 major players signed up right now.... Enjoy these two items.....I think biometric scanners will begin to show up in large numbers this year. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ TECH FILE: Biometrics Emerging as an alternative to password authorization is biometric identification. It's a scanning technology that takes an inkless fingerprint, computes a mathematical representation of the fingerprint and then searches a database to authenticate the user. Biometrics may also be used to identify patients. Variations include hand and feet scans, retina and other facial feature scans, and even speech scans. Who offers the technology: Identicator, Inc., Marina del Rey, Calif., and Identix, Sunnyvale, Calif., among others develop biometric identification scanners, software and applications. Companies such as Unisys, Compaq, Hewlett-Packard and IBM are integrating fingerprint technology into their products. [+] Pros: + Reduces calls to the support desk for forgotten passwords and lost security tokens (who leaves without their hand?). + The cost of integrating fingertip scanning hardware into a keyboard has dropped from more than $400 to less that $100. [-] Cons: - Accumulations of dirt, cuts on the finger or other environmental factors can impede identification. - Little effort by vendors to integrate the biometric identification into the existing applications.
