Speak of the Devil! See, right here Message 12516779 there was a Kosovo type situation. Initially, it was going to be just New Zealand and Australia prepared to go and sort Indonesia out over East Timor [a country which the UN for quarter of a century has declared is NOT part of Indonesia which invaded it in 1975 with little concern from 'The West']. Then the APEC meeting in Auckland got all hot and bothered and before you know it, Bill Clinton decided after all that it was worth dabbling in. A few conversations around the world on the implications for Indonesia if they didn't pull their barbarians out of East Timor and hey presto, that part of the world is safe for CDMA [by which I really mean that that part of the world is now safe, more or less, for life to be normal and for people to go about their business without having young thugs with machetes hacking at them]. Putin in Russia seems likely to make that part of the world safe for CDMA too! Russians seem to think he's great. With a bit of luck, his troops have killed the evil thugs who decapitated some family man from NZ [and others] who were building some telecommunications stuff in Chechnya. The political battles for the first decade of the 21st century seem likely to be the continuing devolution from totalitarian [or even democratic] empires to regionalisation and federation. Taiwan is unlikely to be subsumed by China. Indeed, the reverse is quite likely. Somebody mentioned the unarmed Samurai disarming the sword-holding opponent and beheading him with his own sword - China is bullying towards Taiwan, but they might do better to keep their hands off a tar-baby. Power-hungry people have trouble keeping their hands off anything, so I suppose we'll see some action there in the next decade. Mqurice
