"Panasonic showed a mini portable MP3 player and an MP3 wristwatch, both of which use the postage-sized Secure Digital memory card, developed by SanDisk, Sunnyvale, Calif., Toshiba, and Panasonic. The media, which currently comes in 64M-bytes of storage, has its own security gatekeeper, a Panasonic developed technology known as C2."

...

"Meanwhile, Thomson Multimedia senior vice president James Meyer talked about the success of Thomson's Lyra solid state MP3 player, which uses a TI DSP. He said the company next month will add support for Windows Media audio format and the option for having USB functionality."

Among Panasonic's working prototypes were an SD wristwatch and a headset that used SD cards to play back Internet audio. Other prototypes included an SD camcorder smaller than a pack of cigarettes, an SD camera no bigger than a roll of film, an SD e-mail device and an SD-equipped microwave oven. (The cards feed in recipes and cooking instructions downloaded from the Internet.)

Binx,

re: Capitalizing on Sneaker-Net

Asked why GM chose Memory Stick as a storage medium of choice for e-vehicle, when other competing flash storage devices also appear to be gaining momentum, Hogan said that GM made the decision based on Sony's ability to develop and deliver ubiquitous consumer devices leveraging Memory Stick.

Sony, GM and Lexar are going to bring Memory Stick to the forefront!?

I wouldn't bet money on that.
