The truth is Osprey that regular traders like us don't matter to most of these firms. Many years ago I opened an account with one of these big time firms that have a minimum $25K per account to open a new account. The guy who managed my account was young and hip so I looked him in the eye and I said, "Even though my account is worth $25K you aren't going to do anything for me are you?"

He looked back at me and judged that I could handle the truth and said, "You are absolutely right, I'm not going to do a damn thing for you except charge you a very high commission rate."

I said, "But why?"

He explained to me the economics of the brokerage business. We little guys don't matter because we are small potatoes compared to where they make their real money ... the institutional buyers. That's just one of the facts of life.

This broker used to call ME everyday for stock tips because I used to do amazing trades every day and he wanted to be ready to buy the stocks I was going to buy.
