Well, Mike & Sonki, I have to say that sometimes the Java vision thing becomes a little bit of a self-parody. Viz., this mostly-accurate paraphrase of Paolini's first two examples in the recorded interview:

"The average home already has 40-50 microprocessors in it. What we're trying to do with Java...is to get all of them connected to provide a whole new level of service. For example...imagine letting a repairman through your front door while you're at your office. Imagine a washing machine that could download washing information about the latest fabrics..."

I think they need to work on their vision examples.

There are a lot more than 40 microprocessors in my house, but last time I checked none of them were in doors. As for a washing machine that downloads information about the latest fabrics, I don't wear the latest fabrics. And even if I did, that's what I've got a wife for. She's supposed to know all that stuff without a download. (I know I'll get some cards and letters about that remark <g>).
