Amazing how you are able to skip right over the rest of the stuff and go for one little sound bite; "the kid comes first". Of course the kid comes first, that is what we are saying. That the relationship between a parent and a child is more important than the political leanings of either the Cubans or the Americans. It is not "liberty" or "freedom" to be kept by force from your parent.

Elian's rights.....come first by who's determination of what is right or best for him. I believe children have right's......and I believe that children are given parent to protect the child. Therefore I believe the rights of children are best looked after by parents having the right of guardianship over their children. If this is not the case......then 6 year olds can rule the world. My children shall soon be able to legally tell me that they no longer want to sit in car seats as our law requires wear bicycle helmets til they are 12 as law requires go to school as our laws require And that They want to do these things.... drive a car at any age drink alcohol at any age buy, do and sell drugs at any age because they believe that it is their right to be able to do these things..... We are talking about a 6 year old here..... If my parental rights are second to a child's at age six...the government can do what ever they want with my child.....against my will...... Please be real here. Still waiting for you to tell us if you have any children. Further more I am going to go out on a limb here... Your comment about "any child molester could say that" brought up two immediate thoughts in my mind. I immediately wondered if.....you had been abused.....and/or if you are an abuser. (I realize my making that statement may boil your blood. And maybe totally out of line. But no different than your implying without proof that Elian's father wants him back because he (the father) is an abuser.)
