Razor,
It would be interesting to see how many airlines and rail commpanies disappeared due to merger/acquisition vs. bankruptcy. In the networking industry, there are quit a bit fewer companies than 10 years ago, but it doesn't mean that they all went bust.

Wellfleet and Synoptics don't exist anymore, but they became Bay, which is now a part of Nortel.

Same with the Cascade->Ascend->LU history.

I think that the disappearing act in the nuts will be largely through M&A activities.....but, there will be many losers too.

Profitability - how many major American companies could never even dream of claiming a "profit" if the magic of EBITDA had not been concocted by the stock market gurus?

What if we start with EBEA - Earnings Before Excessive Advertising? Or EFNSCPSUD - Earnings for New Software Companies with Products Still Under Development?

Sleight of hand is sleight of hand. It just hasn't caught on with the "establishment" yet.

But it will. Wait and see. The "traditional" analysts can't have it both ways.

Find me a REIT that shows a real profit.
