Yes, I saw McNealy talking about THINGS, and I think things are beside the main point.

Reasonable people can differ, but I happen to agree with Time Magazine's choice of Einstein as man of the century for reasons I won't bore you with (but they're different from Time's reasons). But who gets Man of the Millennium? There, I don't think there's a contest: it has to be Gutenberg. He took information out of one domain and put it in another, and in so doing changed everything. Sun's vision is the next really major step in that step function. It's not about gadgetry or "things", it's about the effect of information flow on culture, and it's hard to envision all the effects, good and bad. That also sounds vague and abstract, but it isn't hard to take that and craft a more appealing and accessible message than wireless gadgets and chip implants.
