Greg, did you read the article on DoCoMo in the Jan. 17 BusinessWeek? Great read.

That 335 Billion market cap really hit me when I read the piece...but that's Japan. Is Tokyo still worth more than all of California?

Just met a Japanese gent who showed me his Hitachi CDMAOne phone. It was about 1 1/4" wide, about the same length and depth as my Q thin phone (model 1960). It was about 2/3 the weight of the Q unit. Embossed on the reverse "digital by Qualcomm". It allows internet access (actually the Kanji characters may be more efficient on the small screen than Roman characters. He subscribes via a DDI service, got the phone free and pays a base rate of about $35.00 per month, incoming calls free.

Anecdotally, the Newport Japan fund portfolio manager told me was very bullish on DDI and its alliances.

I see this as positive for QCOM.

Greg: Very interesting article in January 17 Business Week, page 88, on DoCoMo and fact that it is a WCDMA system. Does anyone know of documentary evidence that they are paying royalties to Q on this? If so, and their competitors DDI and IDO are just in process of rolling out CDMA systems of their own (I hope), won't Q have Japan solidly in its technology? TIA for your views on this. John
