The police didn't go straight to to Jim and question him either. Jim went TO the police and told them he knew her. Big, big mistake.

Not true. The local TV station Channel 30 first contacted Jim as part of a tribute to Suzanne. They aired a one-liner from him. Jim had brought flowers to the last class and had sat in silence with the students in a tribute. He had also suggested to the Dean of Yale College they hold a walk or vigil in Suzanne's memory.

Recall that the early theories the police had were that Jim and Suzanne had had an affair. The thinking here is that the police interpreted this as an expression of guilt over a slain lover. They've since abandoned that theory but not Jim.

Yes, such actions would be entirely "normal" for Jim... and I hope for many others put in similar situations.
