However, you'd think if he had killed her, he'd have made a greater effort to establish some kind of alibi. A casual call to a friend as soon as he got home, for example. Not ironclad by any means, but most innocent people don't have ironclad alibis.

Or he could have left his office light on, or put it on a timer, on the off chance that someone would notice and think he was working late...
