Terry-once again I think the correct term is scapegoating..
most politicians want to get reelected..the more jobs that are
provided for citizens,the more votes..
What if the government feels that if gold skyrocketed, it would
kill a lot of the job creation machine?
has this bull market now been fueled by the internet? or Greenspan's policies? A monetarist would probably say Greenspan..what would have
happened if the demographics of these baby boomers saving frantically
for their retirement weren't there?
how many retirement funds use derivatives to cut the risk in their
portfolios-is that evil?
how many traders provide liquidity for markets? is that evil?
I still think the economy is fueled too much by the stock market gains..I still feel that in the government's quest for job creation,
they have created basically a two class society..rewarded financial
community..distributed the wealth unequally..etc..if they had let
nature takes it course, and waited for instance telecommunication
advances and thus the internet to drive the economy and investment
money to flow to this sector for instance, I just don't think we
would be witnessing all the loose cannons...bwdik
Sometimes this thread appears so archaic..here we all use the internet
and probably been on it for much longer than most people..realize
its importance-so many posts discount the huge earnings of a lot
of the backbone providers..geez did you just hear about IBM's endorsement of Linux operating system...

<Systems are inanimate.>

Systems are representations of Rationality. As a spiritual or intellectual activity, Systems are not just patterns of interconnectness, but logical. The Internet is the Truth or Absolute. The Absolute or Internet is free because it is the Whole, and this means that it explains itself or is the first principle of the System today. The System is fluid and reveals itself as a process.

The various moments in the life of the System, such as labor, the machine, the family, language, law and the Internet, constitute the determinate aspects of the System in society. The Internet and the everyday world are not to be separated but are to be thought of together in the organic totality of the System in which the concept is subsumed in Logic.

Gold is a great hedge or insurance policy when the System malfunctions.

Was the Spanish Inquisition a system? If not it was an institution and as such was evil.

Terry:

We had our y2k flop on 1/1/2000, on 2/1/2000, and into perpetuity. Gold gave back its recent gains, the nasdaq corrected 10%, and we are off to the races.

Stocks will make new highs, and gold will remain dead now and into the forseeable future. If the comeback in the Pacific rim continues, which looks very likely, the communication sector will continue to do extremely well as modern phone service connects billions of people to the world.
