Bill <I have not bothered to upgrade from 400 as the target keeps moving and the price falling so it will seem like a waste in a few months.>

I am still stumbling along on a 166 even with some light CAD use! Works just fine for everything. The next machine will be purchased mostly so there are two in the house and since there is not a real need and only a minor want (yes, it would be nice to have a nice new machine that is faster at waiting for me) it can wait.

<In fact this recent acceleration has even affected supercomputers where it has been found that you can analyze a problem and if it can be solved in a certain long time period(~26 months of calculation) it pays to not start now, but wait for a year and the faster product then for sale will let you finish before 26 months, even though you waited a year, doing nothing.>

I haven't seen this with respect to computational problems but did observe it with respect to the human genome project. A private company started much later but with better technology (and perhaps better focus?) and is estimated to complete the process faster than the government group.
