Being a small business myself (and only me, very small) the key aspect of a PC purchase is the reliability and overall quality satisfaction of the vendor. My former employer purchases Gateways exclusively (engineering/office/CAD) and been very satisfied. Compaq hasn't really interested me and IBM didn't offer much selection. Second tier vendors and local shops may offer a quality product and service but as the old phrase goes/went (?) "you never heard of someone getting fired for buying IBM."

According to investor.gateway.com, Gateway shipped 3.54M systems in '98, so its gotta be 20% more now, although Q1 is generally weak.>

Thanks for the info but a word of caution. At Gateway and other OEMs the system volumes drop as ASPs rise. So, 55% of business at $1200 point may not mean 55% of unit shipments at that level.
