This AOL Time Warner merger should be good for Gemstar's AOL TV relationship, and should be a major boost for interactive TV.

New cable strategy
AOL and Time Warner didn't mention an broadband cable agreements, but it's hard to ignore that Time Warner has significant cable assets. AOL, which already has digital subscriber line (DSL) access and a satellite deal with GM's Hughes Electronics, was missing the cable pipes.

In a statement, AOL Time Warner said it will have the have the best content to serve "the already growing number of consumers seeking to access the Internet at high speeds via cable modem, DSL, wireless or satellite."

<First to market but it needs a telephone line to capture data. I believe it does it once a day and then sends it down to a disc>

John you hit on the key point against tvio. I don't see many people wanting to run a phone line over to their tv set. I know i do not. Add to this a 400-500 dollar expenditure and monthly fee and i think you have a very hard sale compared to buying a tv or stb with the features built in that rtequires only a few clicks of the remote to begin using.
I am very anxious to see tvio's sales numbers. I am not worried about them at all. We do know that gems sales figures are in an upward climb.

Besides do you really think people need to record everything they watch on tv. Gems capabilities will be sufficent for the majority of people's rcording needs.
