abbigail, RE: Does anyone remember if IBM came out and announced a management shakeup? Let us hope for such an announcement from LU in the coming days!

I think that is an excellent analogy.

John Akers, the retired Chairman/CEO of IBM, was a career IBM man, starting with the company in 1960. He was pushed out in 1993 as IBM was in the middle of its 3rd straight money losing year. The stock bottomed out in the summer of '93 at around $10 split adjusted. Because IBM waited way too long to take action, they eroded a lot of shareholders wealth spinning their wheels and allowed a host of other companies to take the technology lead. Gerstner has done well with what he was given, but IBM still has not performed well for its long term shareholders, either compared with the overall market or particularly compared with its competitors.

LU is not yet in the dire straits that IBM was, not even close. Which is why now is the to take some sort of aggressive action.
