Tuesday January 11, 11:03 am Eastern Time Company Press Release Agilent Technologies' New WDM Channel Analyzer Simplifies Field Testing of Complex DWDM Systems PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 11, 2000--Agilent Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: A - news), a subsidiary of Hewlett-Packard Company, introduces a WDM channel analyzer whose exceptional accuracy and rugged design provide engineers and technicians with the capability to easily measure signal wavelengths critical for the installation and verification of dense wavelength-division multiplexed (DWDM) systems anywhere. The Agilent 86121A WDM Channel Analyzer helps engineers and technicians make the key measurements needed to install, commission, monitor and maintain DWDM systems. With an extremely rugged design, tested under rigorous operating conditions and over a wide range of temperatures, the 86121A was designed to withstand the harsh environments that are encountered in the field. ``Our channel analyzer takes care of the measurement complexities and conditions so the focus is on results, not the test setup,' said Werner Huettemann, general manager of Agilent's Lightwave Division. Escalating demand for instant access to information is driving DWDM technology, which combines multiple wavelengths of light, each carrying a large amount of data on a single strand of fiber. The new channel analyzer provides NIST-traceable absolute-wavelength accuracy of 3 picometers and optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) to >27dB for channel spacing to 50GHz, while ensuring that each channel complies with the ITU-T grid. To simplify the transfer of measurement data, Agilent has included a built-in printer and floppy disk drive in the 86121A analyzer. Data can be permanently stored on MS-DOS© formatted disks or printed to include in maintenance record files. Field engineers can remotely monitor testing through either the new analyzer's general purpose interface bus (GPIB) or RS-232 port. U.S. Pricing and Availability Now available worldwide, the Agilent 86121A WDM Channel Analyzer starts at $23,000.
