Business Wire - January 10, 2000 09:45
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 10, 2000--Optio(R) Software Inc., (Nasdaq NM:OPTO) a leading provider of software that enables organizations to extend their operations from paper-intensive commerce to e-business, today announced the availability of OptioDCS(TM) for Red Hat(R) Linux.

Business to business focused organizations seeking to customize and deliver enterprise information to their employees and trading partners can now host OptioDCS on Linux as well as Windows NT, most popular varieties of Unix and OS/400.

"Optio wants to ensure that our customers will be able run our software on the most popular computing platforms. The rapid growth and acceptance of Linux clearly dictates that we provide support for Linux users," said C. Wayne Cape, Optio's Chairman and CEO. "Also, as more of our enterprise software partners like SAP, Oracle and Baan port their applications to Red Hat Linux we can deliver, integrate and support OptioDCS in their environment."

Linux is also gaining a strong foothold in the European marketplace. "We are very pleased to see Optio provide support for OptioDCS under Linux," said Michael Marxmeier founder and CEO of Marxmeier Software AG. "Demand for Linux support is growing in Europe, and Optio's delivery of OptioDCS for Linux compliments their strong line of business to business product offerings."

International Data Corporation (IDC) estimates Linux commercial shipments will increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 25% from 1999 through 2003, compared with a 10% CAGR for all other major client operating environments combined and a 12% CAGR for all other major server operating environments combined.

OptioDCS for Linux will begin shipping early in Optio's fiscal first quarter, which begins February 1, 2000.
