IMO, Social Security is a hard sell if you remove the idea that you put some in and you get some out.

First of all, the government has not used the money collected for the reasons it was collected. The government has "stolen" the money.

I doubt if even we three could easily agree on what constitutes a "fair" tax system. However, I have no reservation in suggesting that a "fair" system starts by being an "honest." system.

Why not combine the income tax with SS so we can see the whole bill!!!

We can go from there and debate what social programs we want to pay for. And, of course, there should be a debate on tax rates.

Any move to means test SS benefits effectively increases the amount of money for politicians to buy votes with -- it also
skews tremendously, the progressive aspects of the tax rate.

I seriously doubt that Lizzie's tax bill is going down one dime if rich geezers are frozen out. The effect is going to be, pay more -- get less.

Just a thought. I have to get some work done, now.
