Intel (INTC: news, msgs) shares benefited from a rating upgrade from Robertson Stephens, a few days ahead of fourth-quarter earnings from the world's largest chip maker. Analysts Dan Niles and Arnab Chanda shifted their outlook to a "buy" from a "long-term attractive," along with a new price target of $100 per share.

Intel shares jumped 5 1/8 to 87 1/8 in recent trading. The analysts project that the company will report sales of $8 billion, with an earnings per share number of 63 cents a share, when it releases its results on Thursday.
