BROOKTROUT TECHNOLOGY AND SUN MICROSYSTEMS NOW WORKING TOGETHER TO DELIVER SOLUTIONS TO THE COMMUNICATIONS SERVICE PROVIDER MARKET
NEEDHAM, Mass., Jan 10, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Brooktrout Technology (Nasdaq: BRKT) and Sun Microsystems (Nasdaq: SUNW), today announced an initiative in which the companies will work together to make their products compatible. The combination of their products will provide OEM developers in the communications service market the ability to create carrier-grade open systems platforms. These carrier-grade systems platforms will allow OEM developers the compatibility necessary to meet the challenging requirements of this demanding market segment.
( Photo: newscom.com ) Through this initiative, Sun Microsystems has tested several popular versions of Brooktrout Technology's products to determine their compatibility with Sun's SPARCengine(TM) AXi series of board computers and the Solaris(TM) Operating Environment. These tests have demonstrated that the PCI versions of Brooktrout's Netaccess T1/E1/ISDN network access cards and TR114(TM) intelligent fax boards are compatible with the Sun SPARCengine AXi series boards. In addition, CompactPCI versions of Brooktrout's cards are currently undergoing testing by Sun. Brooktrout technology will also support Sun(TM) platforms on additional products including the TR1000(TM) messaging platform, the TR2001(TM) IP Telephony platform and others.
"We chose to use Brooktrout Technology's TR114 intelligent fax boards and Sun platforms for our Global IP-Fax Off-ramps because of their proven reliability and acceptance in global markets by most carriers for high-end, high volume fax applications," said Russ McDermott, director of marketing at TGI Technologies. "The combination of the Sun and Brooktrout products allows us to offer a very robust and reliable platform which is critical because of the high volume of fax traffic expected through our global off-ramps."
"Brooktrout Technology and Sun Microsystems formed this relationship because the communications service provider market has unique requirements in terms of serviceability, reliability, availability and performance," said Lewis Carr, Marketing Manager, Embedded OEM Market Development, Sun Microsystems. "This combination of Sun Microsystems and Brooktrout Technology's products will provide OEM developers with compatible platforms that meet those demanding requirements."
"This is the beginning of a long-term relationship between Brooktrout Technology and Sun Microsystems," said Eric Giler, president of Brooktrout. "Developers who select Sun platforms can be confident that Brooktrout Technology will support those platforms now and in the future. Over time, this will encompass an increasingly broad range of Brooktrout Technology voice, fax and network access products so that our OEM developers will have maximum flexibility in developing telephony systems and applications such as unified messaging, interactive voice response, fax processing, voice conferencing, wireless telephone systems and next generation gateways and switches for voice over DSL and IP Telephony."
