More great news about Gateway

The lone 600MHz Athlon choice will get some company soon - higher MHz Athlons.

"The new Gateway Select 600 platform gives Gateway the ability to expand its Gateway Select line to the recently announced Athlon 800Mhz giving clients even more possibilities. New additions to the Gateway Select line from Gateway are expected soon."

It would have been hard for AMD to only supply 600MHz Athlons to Gateway because practically all Athlons now being made are the .18 variety.

The Gateway Athlon 600 system costs as much as the PIII 500 system. Only the most devoted wouldn't choose the AThlon system.

Speaking of choice, that seems to be Gateway's theme in their version of the news.

Charles - <So, if you are suggesting this means widespread availability let me say that is not necessarily true.>

No, that is not what I'm suggesting. I just thought it ironic pursuant to our discussions.

Also, I always like seeing the serial numbers. Earliest 800 came out of the fab in late November.

I was interested in seeing 750 FCPGA platforms though. Socketed solutions are going to be the way it's going to go fairly quickly.
