Jon Dan Petty Killed in Plane Crash Longtime Allman Brothers Band guitar tech Joe Dan Petty was killed in the crash of a private plane just outside Macon this weekend. Petty began working with the band during the summer of 1970 while the Brothers recorded Idlewild South. He appears with the rest of the weary road crew on the back cover of At Fillmore East. A musician himself, Petty also was a member of the southern rock group Grinderswitch from 1974 to 1984. His wife Judi has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Petty's name to the Methodist Home For Children, 304 Pierce Ave., Macon, GA 31204.
