The previous posts are getting off subject.

I believe this issue is rather simple. Should we return a child to his known father? (Regardless of the political situation) Certainly. Why not? If you wish to argue how bad Cuba is (politically or economically), then where were you when children from El Salvador, Mexico, Africa etc. were sent home? And you must then admit that economics and livelihood should always be taken into consideration for all illegal immigrants. This is a slippery slope to say the least. Additionally, I haven't seen anyone argue that Elian faces political persecution if he returns.

If you hate Cuba's political system and Castro, fine. But what does that have to do with whether Elian stays in the U.S. or not?

I wish Elian well. I deeply hope that after he returns to Cuba, Cuba will change in the near future (it will), and he can come to the U.S. like any other Cuban of the future, with a passport.
