Playing 'what if' . . .

What if that Yahoo poster reported on the Time Warner remark correctly? It at least means that AOL/Time Warner knows about biometrics, and consider it useful enough to mention at the time when they have the largest audience possible.

Why would they be interested in biometrics? Not because it increases the security of the user -- that's just the pitch to get the at-home user to accept biometrics. They have an interest because they want to pitch user authentication to their advertisers, and maybe the credit card companies.

An AOL/Time Warner is definitely big enough by itself to jump start the biometric industry. They can hand out coupons, or some form of plug-ins, almost like candy, if the economics favor it.

What kind of biometrics? Well, certainly not ESAF products. They would need to adopt core biometric technology, including the matching algorithms. That means they get to select the winner among IDX, Veridicom, Authentec, Digital Persona, etc. And the best possibility there is clearly Identix.

I know it is a long shot, but today an AOL/IDX deal has left the fantasy arena. If that deal occurs, IDX's stock price enters the fantasy arena.

(Hey, I'm allowed one very bullish post every once in a while.)
