Re: One 2 One / 2,500 Seats / Wireless Deployment Plans(!) Thread- Some interesting news about CTXS. Not so much the 2,500 seat deployment(although that is great), but the wireless mention. I bolded it. MikeB notice the reference to UNIX. Are you sufficiently confused? If so, I believe I can add a little light. Now to really add confusion, notice the reference to Oracle's 8i product. Slightly puzzling because that is Oracle's flagship, web-based, thin-client solution. I think I understand why MetaFrame was needed, but in case I'm wrong, I won't add to the confusion by guessing. -MikeM(From Florida) ************************ One 2 One deploys Citrix server- based computing to thousands of users across the UK JAN 10, 2000, M2 Communications - Citrix Systems Inc. today announced that One 2 One, a leading UK mobile telephony service provider, is deploying mission critical and office productivity applications to over 2,500 users at seven customer care centres across the UK using Citrix MetaFrame as its standard application server software. One 2 One selected Citrix MetaFrame for its ability to rapidly deploy applications to its fast growing customer care user base and for the application resilience offered by server-based computing. The use of Citrix server-based computing helps enable the high level of customer service that One 2 One delivers to its customers. Currently providing mobile telephony services for over three million customers in the UK, the company is experiencing a growth rate of 120% per annum and is developing its customer care centres to accommodate the increasing number of customers. This scaling is achieved with the use of Citrix MetaFrame for both the rapid deployment of applications to new users within existing customer care centres, or for the establishment of totally new centres. One 2 One is also exploring the deployment of applications to wireless PDAs using the server-based computing architecture and is currently working with major suppliers and customer organisations to create a true e-business environment where management applications can be seamlessly deployed beyond the enterprise. At the core of its IT architecture, One 2 One deploys the Amdocs Ensemble customer care and billing software application running on multiple HP 9000 V-Class UNIX servers with the Oracle 8i database**. This centralised information is integrated into a PowerBuilder front-end application, with the application managed and deployed to the 2,500 end user PCs by Citrix MetaFrame running within a server farm comprising 70 Windows NT servers. One 2 One is in the process of delivering Microsoft Office and other applications to its users through the same Citrix server-based computing architecture. "The customer care and billing system is the heart and lungs of mobile telephony," explains John Murray, IS director of One 2 One. "We need to be able to deliver this information to the new customer care representatives as they come on board, ensure fast performance for the applications and have a highly stable environment with absolutely minimum downtime. Citrix MetaFrame has enabled us to scale our operations very easily, while delivering excellent performance for the users in an environment that stays up and running." The Citrix server-based computing solution at One 2 One replaced a traditional three-tier client server architecture that proved problematic in delivering application availability and performance. With its users dispersed across seven centres throughout the UK, the traditional client-server architecture required major server technology to be installed at each location with a supporting technical team. Using the Citrix server-based computing solution has enabled One 2 One to centralise all its computing operations, with just a router on site to link to the central datacentre and Novel NetWare server to run the LAN. Point To Point, a Gold-level member of the Citrix Solutions Network, and one of the first Citrix systems integrators in the UK, provided design, installation, training and support for the MetaFrame project and continues to support the server farm installation with their strong team of CCAs (Citrix Certified Administrators). "One 2 One is a major growth business and managing this growth is the big business challenge," says Murray. "With the Citrix server-based computing architecture we can now move much more quickly to establish completely new customer care centres. For the future we are looking at how this architecture can enable us to reach our mobile workers, support major customers and suppliers, and even deploy applications to customers with smart phones."
