Peter, late August '98 and today are hardly comparable periods...back then, the world was ending because an economy the size of Austria's had it's government default and one hedge fund was on the verge of default. NOW everything is hunky-dory. the bullish consensus according to the AAII poll just reached it's highest level ever, and the Rydex ratio at 0,12 stands at a record low as of yesterday. economists unanimously predict the economy will enjoy another strong year (first time they are this unanimous in 10 years)and WS strategists tell everybody to buy tech stocks (the originality of these sparkling geniuses deserves to be admired).
so you are perplexed...so am i, and a few other people i know of. but the rest of the world isn't. they're all BULLISH.
