It happens to me at circuit city the other day (Jan. 8 ) when i ask the sales person for demo of the guide+ he tall me that Garden State cable is blocking the program, that this was illEgal and to call the cable co. and complain. Do you guys think that GMST knows about that?and if they dont, can some one inform them (i do not know their e-mail address.)JPLESSAS@AOL.COM

I'm confused about this blocking of Gemstar's data by the cable companies.

The Stephens' report (pg 17) mentions that "some cable operators strip Gemstar's data out of the VBI (vertical blanking interval]" because "they want to preserve (the VBI) for themselves."

I'm not sure if this is the same issue you're talking about, but the report makes no reference that I can see to the practice being illegal.

Could you shed some light on this? Thanks,
