Options are not issued by the companies in question. They are creations of folks on Amex-Nasdaq, and according to the exchange rules, they fade into the night if out of money, settled in cash if in money. It really was like taking money from babies, but made more enjoyable because money was taken from market makers. They did not dare dropping the June premium as the deal could have blown up, and they had to fill all orders less than 10 contracts each.
