Criticism of additions to the S&P 500:
financialweb.com
"Furthermore, the report describes additional problems. S&P 500 index funds must, according to their mandates, add new cash into the stocks of the S&P 500, but since the index is weighted by market capitalization, the bigger the stocks, the more money the fund managers must allocate to them. As the stocks rise further, investors place more money into index funds, and the cycle perpetuates itself."
