Katz, Post 1637 was it: Message 12518661

Clinton was just mentioned in passing - initially the USA was going to bypass East Timor, but decided after some conversations to do an about turn and lend some verbal support. Which they did. Which made the Indonesians immediately give up. Australia and NZ would have beaten them anyway, so it was a convenient excuse for them to 'see sense' - a bit embarrassing to give up in the face of Australia and NZ.

It was a nice cheap opportunity for the USA to pass a message to China that military action in regard to Taiwan would be stopped. Same as Indonesia's in East Timor.

The Vodafone announcement should be a homer for Q! .
