"Our global partnership with InfoSpace.com will dramatically increase the
availability of wireless Internet services for mobile users," said Arun Sarin,
CEO of Vodafone AirTouch. "InfoSpace.com helps us realize our goal of
allowing users to remain connected to their vital information and allows them
to conduct transactions wherever they may be in the world."
"Vodafone AirTouch's choice to partner with InfoSpace.com reinforces our
position as the leader in providing comprehensive Internet services for
wireless carriers on a worldwide basis," said Naveen Jain, chairman and CEO of
InfoSpace.com. "Our partnership with Vodafone AirTouch will allow us to
extend the reach of our services to 48 million additional users in more than
24 countries."
Vodafone AirTouch's wireless Internet service will provide customers with
a complete range of services -- including enriched voice services, messaging
and information services to e-commerce and mobile/desktop integration
-- through the widest possible range of access devices, from the standard
mobile phone to world-class handheld computers.
InfoSpace.com's wireless Internet services are the first global end-to-end
private-label solution that enable wireless carriers, device manufacturers and
software application providers to develop a comprehensive wireless portal
optimized for their customers. The integrated platform of services provide
mobile users with one place to conduct transactions including buying products
and checking bank balances, getting personalized and localized information
including their address book and calendar and sending and receiving instant
messages from non-PC devices including cellular phones and new Web appliances.
InfoSpace.com offers unique services to wireless carriers such as
one-click buying on cell phones. Through a recently announced acquisition,
InfoSpace.com will be able to provide a server-based technology that enables
wireless Internet devices to become e-commerce-enabled devices by giving
mobile users the ability to press one key to make on the spot purchases from
virtually any Web site. This is possible through a patent-pending secure
technology that provides an automated process for filling in payment forms,
eliminating the need to continually enter in payment or shipping information,
register at sites or enter any site-specific passwords.
InfoSpace.com's Wireless Internet Services are device-independent and
provide a platform that enables Vodafone AirTouch to support a variety of
emerging protocols such as GSM, GPRS and 3G. For the future, with its global
platform, Vodafone AirTouch intends to be the world's leading mobile provider
of wireless services.
InfoSpace.com has extensive partnerships with carriers in North America
including Ericsson, Nokia, NeoPoint, GTE, AT&T, Sprint, and BellSouth. And
with a recent acquisition, InfoSpace.com will have relationships with more
than 21 worldwide carriers in Europe, North America and Asia providing
services to over 300 million subscribers.
