Eve-teasing Bus Passengers in Hyderabad, get it now: You are minced meat. Hassled lady conductors learn karate Hyderabad: Don't you dare tease a lady conductor in buses from now on. Chances are you'll end up being beaten up by them. After all, they are getting trained in martial arts! Faced with complaints of lewd comments, misbehaviour and at times even molestation of lady conductors by ruffians on the buses and bus stops, the APSRTC has embarked upon a mission of training the fairer sex in karate. And mind you, they will not only protect themselves, but also women passengers who are subjected to such misbehaviour. Not only the lady conductors and passengers are misbehaved with, but many men even occupy the seats exclusively reserved for women and refuse to vacate, so for such elements, a few chops will set right the situation, a top official remarked. As part of the exercise, 21 conductor trainees and 47 lady supervisor trainees underwent a gruelling fortnight karate training classes under the watchful eyes of Sempai N Maheshwar, a third degree black- belt holder of Shotokan style of the Japan Karate Association. The 21 lady trainee conductors who underwent the rigours of the oriental martial arts, have been trained in special techniques of combating an aggressor, besides punches, kicks, blocks and various other calisthenics. The trainee conductors, all recently recruited, will shortly be put on duty on the RTC buses operating in the Nalgonda region. The 21 lady conductors and the 47 lady supervisors gave a demonstration of their new found art before reporters here at Hakimpet on Tuesday morning. The fortnight training has given me a world of self-confidence and I can tackle any type of misbehaviour on the bus, which has become a regular nuisance, B Vijayalakshmi, one of the trainee conductor from Miryalguda, told Deccan Chronicle. According to Vijayalakshmi, she is now not only confident of protecting herself, but also fellow female passengers who may also become victims of such misbehaviour and lewd comments.A BA graduate in Telugu literature, Vijayalakshmi, said she had to take up the job of a conductor due to poor job opportunities in other services. But I am confident of serving the RTC and the passengers sincerely with my educational and new found martial arts qualifications?, she said with a chuckle. The lady conductors are all in the age group of 18-25.Traditionally, a male bastion, the RTC started recruiting lady conductors from 1996 and over 1000 such lady conductors are now in service.
