Rand can certainly get you to think "out of the box." I owe her a debt of gratitude as well. I read Fountainhead and Atlas back to back, and I certainly perceived the world differently after finishing those books.

I thought Fountainhead was much better written. The plot was credible and the heroes believable. Atlas seemed cartoonish and the writing was pedestrian. The stark didactic tone was a bit much, too. But I recognize it was an important book. Socialism was on the march in 1957, Atlas was a salubrious antidote.

Wonder why Atlas was never made into a movie. I watch The Fountainhead with Gary Cooper and Patricia Neal every couple of years. It's must see TV!
