Nortel Partners With Sun-Netscape

informationweek.com

Nortel Networks and the Sun-Netscape
Alliance today announced plans to combine
their products and services to develop a
platform designed to help Internet service
providers and application service providers
offer and manage customized, packaged
services.

Sun-Netscape will combine its iPlanet
directory and messaging, calendar, and
E-mail products with Nortel Networks
Preside Policy Services to create an
infrastructure for address assignment, user
authentication, Web application
development, messaging, calendaring,
scheduling, and quality-of-service
management. The platform is supposed to
be available by midyear, the companies
say.

Concerns from service providers about not
being able to rapidly develop and offer
customers bundled services moved the
companies toward collaboration. Says Amy
Millard, Sun-Netscape product marketing
manager, "The directory will help service
providers expand their market presence
and provide more benefit to their users."
