Peter, no doubt. the cult of the equity has made accounting shenanigans the primary corporate concern in the U.S.

it used to be that European investors looked with envy upon the strict U.S. accounting standards that seemed to stand in the way of the abuses many European listed companies were accused of (that was the state of affairs during most of the 80's). no longer. the U.S. government and U.S. corporations seem to have entered a contest over who can produce the better lies...
these are among the fruits of the mania which i expect to come under intense scrutiny post-bubble.
