Goutama,

<o There are big price drops (22% - 40%) in all speed grades of Athlon
except the 500MHz one. The lowest prices shown, were listed by only
one dealer with ETA of 1/24/00. The dealer also maintains separate
prices for immediate delivery of Athlons which come close to the
second lowest prices shown in the table on the line, next to the
current prices - enclosed in parenthesis.

o If the lowest prices shown in the table are any indication of up coming
price cuts by AMD, this shows AMD is in the driver seat for the
first time dictating the MHz prices in the market.

o Even though the price cuts look too steep, these cuts may actually
improve Athlons ASP, if 500MHz is dropped.>

Thanks for the update!

AMD is pricing 600 as the entry level product not just to Gateway/Compaq but to everyone. This is what I wanted to see from AMD for Q1. Competitively Intel is most vulnerable in Q1 because of their product Mix (still a lot of it in Katmai PIIIs).

This should help AMD grow market share very quickly while growing blended-ASPs. Get ready for a super Q1.

I LOVE IT!

Chuck

Goutama,

Its interesting to see the size of the 700 Athlon's price drop when Intel announced the 733 near the end of November.

All and all though I think prices are holding up pretty well, don't you think?

Great job by the way!!

As an aside, I think I am upgrading my cpu to one of the last 550 Athlons. It and the motherboard should be in place by the end of the month.

Goutama, re:<Athlon price drops> HUGE! Based on this, I think AMD must be planning on selling 3M Athlons in Q1, rather than 2M. I don't understand the huge gap between 650 and 700 MHz ($299 to $499), but then again, these single vendor prices are like futures prices and are subject to change.

Thanks for putting this table together every week.
