Just to play devil's advocate, I'd like to hear from some people as to why AOL should NOT have bought At Home. I bought at home on it's IPO and sold long ago but I still like the company. The only reason I'm out is I feel they are orphaned by AT&T and the open access of cable access could hurt them (keeping it simple).

Sure AT&T holds a majority stake in At Home but AOL could've worked a deal out (maybe , maybe not). But look at the positives:

- At Home owns a fiber optic backbone across the US from Sprint.

- At Home uses a proprietary proxy server technology which is one of the best in the industry

- At Home covers a huge market in the US and has expanded elsewhere (Europe, Japan, etc...)

- At Home's stock is very depressed as of late and ripe for the taking.

- Obviously this would give AOL their broadband access they want so much.

Any other thoughts on this? I would've been happier with them surprising us with a purchase of At Home - disgusted with this Time Warner deal.
