I'm not that sure about the BRIGHT future. Have Avici reported any production OC48 traffic? OC192? Nortel announced that their Versalar 25000 will have ~250G backplane which is better then Juniper and close to Cisco's 12016. But Nortel doesn't have even OC48 on a router side which is very different from mux boxes they do. You can do whatever you want with optics but you still have to route, at least for now and the near future.
