Qwik - i think IBM is more confused then ever. They go out and buy floundering Sequent adding another architecture and OS to the stable of architectures and OS's that they cant sell today - then they come out with their Linux press release - so which is it, OS/390, OS/400, AIX (myriad versions), Linux, NT, Dynix ptx? What happened to Monterey for Merced? Does this sound like SGI or what?

Sun offers an industry accepted architecture (SMP vs. MPP or NUMA) with complete ABI compatibility and virtually unlimited scalability - and yes reliability - thats why Networking folks like LU, Cisco, Motorola and Nortel choose Sun period. developers and customers love this story. Individually IBM or HP can make an excellent machine and its no surprise that the newest ones have the best benchmarks - but they dont have the overall proposition that Sun has both for development and deployment.

Of course success on IBM's scale is a bit harder than Sun - them's being an 80 Billion dollar + company.
