CNET Invests in Internet Hard Drive Company X:drive

X:drive's new `Skip the Download'TM Technology, to Be Incorporated Into CNET's Download.com


SANTA MONICA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 11, 2000--X:drive, the Internet hard drive company, today announced an investment from CNET Inc. (Nasdaq:CNET - news).

In addition to the investment, X:drive has agreed to an extensive marketing effort across the CNET network, and will offer its breakthrough ``Skip The Download'(TM) technology to CNET's more than 9 million users.

Under the terms of the agreement, CNET will incorporate X:drive services into CNET Download.com, the Internet's leading catalogue of free software downloads, which powers downloads from across the CNET network. The unique ``Skip the Download' feature will allow users to instantly transfer files directly into their X:drive accounts without waiting for file downloads.

As part of the agreement, X:drive will offer CNET users up to 100 megabytes of personal, secure storage space at no charge. X:drive's unique and powerful technology will also enable users to access personal and public shared files using the already familiar Windows File Explorer on their desktop.
