It's past Midnight here in Chicago, so I can officially extend a "Happy e.Digital Birthday" greeting to all of you on the anniversary of the renaming of Norris Communications.

I went back through the posts and appropriately, here was one from Betty on that first day:

I just got home from the Annual Meeting. All of the shareholder proposals passed, and the company is now e.Digital Corporation. They are trying to get the symbol "edig" for NASDAQ, and we'll be informed in a few days. The website address will probably be
www.edig.com.

No real surprises at the meeting. About 80-100 people attended. The use of LU's compression of 15:1 (called PAC vs. MP3 which is used by others) was discussed, and we were told that some companies which have used MP3 are now saying that PAC is better. LU's technology produces real CD-quality sound - not near CD quality. Also, the final version of the player that e.Digital is working on with Lucent will play through the FM radio in your car -- with no wires. A small company in Baton Rogue, LA called Celestial Technology, is providing software for computers that will link the music player to the computer and allow you to manage your music library on your computer. You'll be able to take downloaded music and select individual tracks that are then put on a flash memory card (using Micro OS from e.Digital) in any order that you want them played. We saw a short demo of the software, which seems pretty neat.

I'll have to listen to my tape and go through my notes for more later.

We all got nice coffee mugs with e.Digital printed on the side. (The "e" stands for "embedded systems" we were told.)

Betty

Betty was just one of a number of great information sources following Norris Communications on Silicon Investor. Savant, Jim Claspill, bob, Burt, Kerry Sakolsky, Dave Swanson and, yes, Walter Morton, among many others, all provided tremendous research and analysis of the company's prospects to this cheapskate former lurker of SI.

All of you continue to serve your fellow investors with your hard work and interest. It has been my pleasure to meet most of you in the past year, either in person at the November shareholder meeting, or through our Private Messages here.

I am in debt to all of you and extend my personal thank you and congratulations to all of you!

In my review of Silicon Investor messages from the time around the January meeting I found this typically prescient post by Burt:

This was January 7, 1999 shows why so many of us old NCII investors held on to this penny stock for years:

Comments from Burton(copied from AOL)
-----------------------------------------------------------
IMO, the meeting will be a non-event. It may feature some demos about music and an overview of the music market. If a large contract were done, we would have heard about it before the Holidays. Patent announcements, small contracts are always possible at any time. Any reverse split (the Yutsette's ballyhooed fable) will only be forthcoming after 3-6 qtr's. of increasing profits and not under duress.

I would encourage anyone going to the meeting to ask management to explain the role that Lucent is playing in the music and voice markets. More specifically, why does Lucent have an interest in our expertise with music and voice recorded on flash or the microHD by IBM.

I would doubt that management will be able to make any comment about Intel's vision of the future with NCI.

It is very likely management will comment on the RIAA's desire to protect their artists with encryption and watermarking of songs. It is also RIAA's intent to get multiple compression algorithms hooked into a standard application processor interface (API), so that many companies will be able to design and produce the handheld music player without moving parts. Whatever NCI and its partners produce will have an API allowing any forthcoming standard to work with NCI's design.

If NCI continues to perform well for Lucent and Intel, the rewards could be huge.

Best to all:

Congratulations and a special thanks to you, too, Burt!
