I think it's worse than that. (Case and) Levin on the Tuesday Today show said they intended to use this "new currency" [AOL Time Warner] to make additional acquisitions. When you think your currency is undervalued, you pay cash. Case saw the trend to or toward $0/month ISPs, and he knew he needed broadband access, and I think he mistakenly thinks he solved both in one shot. It looks poorly thought through to me. I also think TWX rushed into this believing that they are "buying" into the Internet revolution. AOL is family and simplicity. It would be a better match with PAX, but even that has been pre-empted by NBC. How is the AOL portion of AOL-TWX going to market across themes of sex, violence, and the creative edge? If they do, they open the door to losing chunks of their subscriber base, IMO.

Jay,re:"AOL's Case". Nature strikes again. 'Case' just act on behave of 'law of nature' to put some insanity check in the mania. Now, I'm sure the spin is: 'Case-specific' or 'company specific'. Just make sure the Nut's stay virtual on the way to the bank, as soon as it becomes REAL, you wouldn't want to be near. It's easier to explain why the LOST keeps going up than why are you making so little money. AOL's is DONE. Who's NEXT.
