Fuel Cell Costs-

My back Scientific Americans are stored 200 miles from where I reside, but I found this DOE blurb citing a goal for fuel cell costs.

gils.doe.gov:1782/cgi-bin/w3vdkhgw?qryBKAStclD_;doecrawl-014655

<< These new research projects will enhance the two major fuel cell technologies currently being developed by DOE's Fossil Energy: the solid oxide fuel cell (an all-ceramic cell) and the molten carbonate fuel cell (which uses a hot molten salt as the electrolyte).

The major obstacle to this point has been cost. Current fuel cell technologies cost significantly more than competing energy systems. These projects could reveal new ways to improve the way fuels cells are made and operated. The goal is to bring the costs of a fuel cell stack (the central core of a fuel cell) down to $100 per kilowatt and the entire fuel cell power plant down to a cost of $400 per kilowatt.>>
