Well, supposedly the 3rd most frequently recorded song is East St. Louis Blues. I found it hard to believe, and in trying to find out if that were true, I came across an interesting piece of trivia regarding songwriter/arranger Johnny Mandel. He played with a number of illustrious musicians, perhaps the best known of whom was a sax player with whom he was a bandmate in 1945 - Alan Greenspan.
