I'm beginning to wonder whether the telcos aren't in danger of becoming an endangered species.

That has underlay my visits to this thread off and on for the last year. Convergence is happening. There are presently a lot of points of entry into the home (or small business). In time, there will be only one point of entry, I believe. That might be the telco. Or it might be the cableco. Or, it could be a new entrant that isn't even here yet. More and more my betting is on the new entrant, because of the sclerosis of the incumbents. And that's why I mentioned HDR.

Given their crummy service to date, the only hope the telcos like BEL have is if they can become ubiquitous providers of broadband before the competitors are ready. So far, they're failing that test.

JMO of course.

Best,
John

Hi Zakrosian,

I, too, have RR service and it is delightful compared to DUN. In fact, my connectivity in my home office is better than at the local community college with its shared T-1 line. I pay $35/mo. and the closest thing coming out in ADSL is an offering for far less bandwidth at $90/mo. And it won't be able to reach my residence due to distance to the CO.

There was a good article in TheStreet.Com yesterday by Jim Seymour. He described his views of the state of mind in the corporate headquarters of the RBOCs. I agree when he says that the mindset is to stall the future as long as possible and protect the T-1 cash cow against any advances, if at all possible. Of course, they will lose that battle.

Best, Ray
