Frank. I agree with what you say 100%. My comments on megabit-as-overkill were particlular to my needs, only. As I know you undertand.

We've got HDSL in our area now (symmetric by definition, at 1+ meg speeds). It's priced at a multiple over the ADSL alternatives, but I haven't really investigated their pricing. I would note that businesses face a separate pricing than homes and SOHO's. I believe the minimum price for similar speeds that I ordered is something like $149. My neighbor, who owns an insurance agency, is getting it. And I will be interested to see how his throughput and reliability compare with mine.

Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to find out just how "tragically" BEL is combining lines to be forced through one router or common line. The fact that they guard the information so zealously suggests I don't want to know the answer. I'd get too mad. (What do you bet the router problem last weekend was related already to over-subscribing into the one point? I guess we'll never know the answer.)

Best,
John
